It might be too early to say whether this is desirable or not, but the approach that the Times is taking to their website redesign is certainly desirable. The Times is giving access to the prototype to those who request it, and getting feedback from those consumers along the way. The redesign as it stands now looks like it mainly includes more streamlined content: comments to the side, but only appearing if you want them to, quick flipping ability, etc. The web redesign looks, according to the Atlantic Wire, like “a really good blog.” It also looks a lot like their iPad app–there is ample white space and an attempt to replicate the flipping action of reading a physical newspaper.
