Researchers at the University of Southampton have discovered the technology to record digital data in quartz. The system employs femtosecond laser writing, 360TB/disc capacity, thermal stability to 1000C and a million-year lifespan. This system shows attention to the archival nature of modern disc technology. The system would likely integrate in the same way as other disc systems, making it an organic transition and something the end user could readily see themselves using. Finally, the system could easily capitalize on the pop culture market.
