If you look around Harvard’s campus on any rainy or snowy day, chances are you’ll see at least one pair of L.L. Bean’s signature boots. These boots may not be the most aesthetically appealing to some, but they have always been a popular item for the brand. Today, these boots have seen a resurgence of popularity, with backorders for this style upwards of 100,000 pairs. I think bean boots have been exceptional in maintaining their desirability across generations and across demographics— they are practical, effective, and comfortable. These attributes fulfill the consumer’s needs and I believe that their pervasiveness perpetuates their desirability. The bean boot is here to stay.
