(I don’t use this product, but I saw it in action the other day.) Messenger Kids is what its name implies: Facebook Messenger, but for kids. Tech products for kids always raise an interesting set of issues, such as how to protect kids from dangerous content, or how to avoid creating social media addicts. I think it’s interesting that the product encourages kids to do activities such as draw things for each other or video chat, which are online activities that feel adjacent to real world activities. It helps that the aesthetics and language target kids well.
